Orange County's #1 Semi-Pro Haunted Attraction
Scaring you Since 1995
About
In Brief

Our Goal:
The Tustin Haunt was founded as a community event to give residents a safe and fun place to enjoy their Halloween. We strive to continue this goal and improve upon the experience. Since 1995 our haunt has changed every year in order to "keep it fresh" so our patrons never have the same experience from year to year.
A haunted attraction of this caliber is often accompanied by a hefty admission cost, but the
Our main goal is to give back to the community while having fun doing so.

Tustin Haunt History

The Tustin Haunt's roots date back to 1995, and was originally located in Santa Ana. The haunt started as most "home haunts" do. Black plastic roofing tarps and wooden poles created a hallway, in which effects such as fog machines and strobe lights were placed. This "Haunted Hallway" as it was aptly named was great fun for its creator, Ben Penman, who knew hed found a great, life-long hobby.

Every year the Haunted Hallway increased in complexity, size, and scariness... until Ben moved to a location without the great space for the haunt. And so, the "Haunted Hallway" slumbered.

In 2001, an attempt to recreate the hallway was made at the "Tiller Trick-or-Treat" on Tustin High School's Campus. And though the "ToTs"(trick-or-Treaters) enjoyed the haunt immensly, the attempt was a disappointment to Ben and his crew who knew that they could have done much better had they been given more time.

In, 2003, the Haunt was revitalized with a fresh design concept and an awesome production crew, who started preparing for the Haunt especially early and had a wealth of spooky ideas to put to use. This was the year that the "Tustin Haunt" came to be known as it is today - the haunt being located in the city of Tustin. The new haunt design was the brain child of the Ben, Jen, & Kevin. They took the haunt to the next level of fright with some new tricks and a layout that made good use of a 22'x42' plot of land. A graveyard, glow zone, hanging, and light tunnel were all part of the technical aspects of 2003's Tustin Haunt.

2004 proved to be an exciting Halloween! Something completely new that Ben, Jen, and Kevin were experimenting with was the idea of a theme to the haunt. It was decided to make the "haunted house" look like a haunted house. The Facade of an old shack, a long hallway, TV room,  Dining Room and many haunters made the haunt nice and scary. Please check out 2004's page for more on the aftermath of The Chainsaw Massacre .

In 2005 the Tustin Haunt continued with a themed haunt. Not as in-depth of a story line, but this allowed the haunt to be VERY scary. 2005's theme was Dungeon of Death. Featured portions were: an actual execution, an electric chair, corpses burning at the stake, and an elaborate entrance through a swamp with a bridge. What fun was had in 2005!

2006's haunt theme was the Curse of the Pirate. And what excellent timing on the Tustin Haunt's part. Pirates of the Caribbean 2 had just come out and the pirate craze was in full swing. This was the first year that the haunt was open for 2 nights, both new ideas proved to be wildly successful. Portions of the haunt included a Tavern, Wharf, Moored Pirate Ship, Cursed Jungle, and Treasure Cave with Spiders and of course - TREASURE! 2007 was amazing! The Carnival of Dreams brought nightmares to all who managed to survive the entire experience. An 18' tall clown face welcomed guests when they entered the the Pre-Show carnival fairway. As the Pre-Show progressed, the the giant clown face turned evil and the condemned carnival opened its gates allowing guests to take part in a final romp through a Glow Funhouse, a Clown Campground, a rotating tunnel, sideshow alley and then through the Big Top where YOU were the main course *cough* ...attraction.
Over the 3 nights of operation, the Tustin Haunt had almost 2,800 people go through - as verified by a ticket count. For all the hard work, the haunt received just under $800 in donations, which would sound like a large amount except when you take into account the $2,500 that was invested into it for 2007.
Some of the effects and technology used were invisible UV paint, fluorescent paint, pneumatic electronically controlled props, 4300 watts of audio power, 5450 watts of incandescent light fixtures, 3200 watts of fog machines, a DMX 512 controller utilizing a single universe of DMX control, an 800 watt DMX Strobe light, two 250 watt Wildfire UV fixtures, six UV fluorescent tubes, over 1000' of cable, lots of wood, paint, screws, staples, plastic, sweat and a crew of 12 dedicated individuals.

The Red Hill Mining Town of the late 1800's rose from history in 2008. The Red Hill Mining Town was a piece of Tustin History that had been long forgotten due to the dark events that transpired as a result of what happened at the Red Hill Mine. The 2008 Tustin Haunt based around those events. The Tustin Haunt crew recreated the old Red Hill Mining Town and the Red Hill Mercury Mine and retold the legend of the Red Hill Mining Massacre and used the haunt's guests to play the part of visitors to the town. As visitors, guests were recruited to help solve the mystery of what happened at the Red Hill Mining Massacre.
2008 was based on an elaborately told story that although fictional, was based on actual places and events in Tustin's History. The The Tustin Haunt operated over 4 days and two weekends in October (our longest run to date) and had an attendance count of over 4500 guests who participated in the event, this does not count the people who were too frightened to enter. We also provided a behind the scenes tour of the haunt which was very successful.
2008's effects included (from beginning to end) a custom "ghost train" animation, fully detailed and decorated old western era buildings, lenticular changing portraits, talking animatronic narrator, 9 separate audio tracks, many theatrical lighting fixtures (some with environmentally friendly conversions), professionally painted/detailed scenery, 20' tall mine tower headframe, life-size pepper's ghost effect, computer controlled mine lighting, high-volume pneumatic air cannon, pneumatic/aniatronic combo prop, cieling mounted pneumatic prop, running water mine sluice, scrim effect, triple-motion pneumatic prop, and many live scareactors. If you missed 2008, you missed an amazing haunted house attraction.

2009 will mark a new chapter for the Tustin Haunt. We have moved on to producing a professional/commercial haunted attraction. We will still have a small yard display with several cool effects, but it will not be to the same degree as our previous years. We thank our community for all the support they have provided over the past several years. We would not have been able to move up without all of you.
2009's new project is called Sinister Pointe and is multiple haunted houses in one location. We have obtained licensing from Konami to produce a haunted house based on the popular Silent Hill games and movie. We will also have an amazing interactive haunted attraction called "FEAR" (not association to the video game) which will put you up against your fears in a battle for your life. The final part of Sinister Pointe is a Post Apocalyptic themed free-form haunt zone in which you will make your way through to get to the attractions or the ticket booth. All the while be hunted by creatures of the Post Apocalyptic world.

2010 has already proved to be a busy year for the original creators of the Tustin Haunt. In June we completed a Haunted House Attraction at Janfusun Theme Park in Taiwan. Immediately after, we began working on the Queen Mary's Dark Harbor, which is open through October 31. At the end of October, we will be producing a private Haunted Attaction for a very well-know costume company. Please come visit our project on the Queen Mary in Long Beach!
